Poor Brit

A few caveats before I say what’s on my mind about the Britney Spears/VMA debacle: I think Britney is a complete train wreck, I think the girl has huge issues, I think she is clearly fighting a substance abuse problem, I think her kids are in danger, I think she is a terrible role model for young girls, and I think she is the equivalent of a 15 year-old girl who was thrust into the spotlight with millions of dollars and has lost her way. But was this really necessary? Yeah she looked like she was either heavily medicated or stoned or drunk at the VMAs but honestly did the press need to snarkily fixate on her body of all things? I’ve battled issues with my body image pretty much every day of my life past the age of about 8 or so. It’s exactly this sort of response to her non-washboard tummy that makes women feel bad about themselves.  The girl has had 2 babies for crying out loud. Her less than hardbody appearance was hardly the most scandalous part of her performance.
